Westcountry Funeral Service - a family tradition of care in Saltash

Located in the heart of Saltash on Fore Street, our funeral home provides a quiet and welcoming space for families and loved ones. With a dedicated Chapel of Rest, carefully prepared facilities for the care of the deceased, and a classically furnished reception area, we aim to offer comfort and reassurance at a time when it’s most needed.

Our Saltash home also holds a number of items reflecting our long history, including a Victorian printing plate of a horse-drawn hearse, originally commissioned by the Parson family—our ancestors—five generations ago. The funeral home is managed by Richard Walter Parson, a direct descendant of the Parson family of South Hill near Stoke Climsland, who began their service to the community as undertakers in 1871.

Richard qualified as a Funeral Director with the National Association of Funeral Directors in 1988 and later with the British Institute of Embalmers. Having first worked alongside his father, Wally Parson, and later with Co-op Funeralcare, he took ownership of Westcountry Funeral Service in 2021, continuing the family tradition of providing thoughtful and personal funeral care.

We offer a full range of funeral services, including both attended and direct cremations, and are able to provide printed Orders of Service, keepsakes such as Ashes into Glass and silver fingerprint jewellery, scatter tubes, and a complete selection of caskets. We also supply headstones, cremation tablets, and memorial masonry, all carefully crafted to reflect your wishes.

For families wishing to scatter or bury ashes at sea, we can make all necessary arrangements. This can include a family-attended service, and we take great care in observing correct flag etiquette when a coffin is draped, drawing on our heritage and experience in this area.

We are here whenever you need us, with appointments available 24 hours a day, every day. With generations of experience and a deep connection to the local community, we are proud to be one of Saltash’s most trusted and recommended funeral services.

What families say

5 stars

“Richard Parson and the team couldn't have been more helpful. Everything was explained and carried out in such a dignified way. Exactly the kind of help and guidance that is needed at these emotional times. I would recommend them to anyone.”
